Family Support

How we can help

We are here for families in Sussex who have a child or young person with vision impairment, whatever stage you are at in your journey. Our goal is to walk alongside you, offering practical help and emotional support along the way, including:

  • Emotional support for family members
  • Social events and activities for families and/or children
  • Home visits to offer tailored guidance
  • Signposting to other relevant services, e.g. benefits advice
  • Workshops and training to build confidence and skills
  • Counselling with trained therapists

To be eligible for this service, please register you or your child below.

Register with us

Register with us to access support. If you’re under 30, living in Sussex, and have a vision impairment, you can join our community. Parents, carers, and professionals can also register on behalf of a child. Registering with us helps you stay connected with support, events, and opportunities tailored to you.

Frequently asked questions

Yes! Unless otherwise stated, our events are designed to be inclusive and enjoyable for children, young people, and their families.

We run sessions on understanding vision impairment, building independence and life skills and supporting emotional wellbeing for families .

Once your child is registered, you can request counselling via the wellbeing page. Sessions are confidential, delivered by qualified therapists, and offered either face-to-face or online. Most families are offered up to 16 sessions.

For general information, advice, or guidance, we aim to respond within 10 working days of your initial contact. For benefits advice, we’ll refer you to our trusted partners—SSW and Amaze—within 2 weeks. Social events and activities are regularly updated on our Events Page.

Begin by registering your child with Blatchington Court Trust. Once registered, our Family Support team will be in touch to explore how we can help.

Family Support is free for families registered with Blatchington Court Trust. Some events may ask for a small contribution, which will be clearly stated in the event details.

We will guide you with practical advice on sensory toys and alternative learning materials to help nurture your child’s growth and confidence in the early years.

A member of our team will visit your home to understand your family’s needs, offer tailored guidance, and help you access relevant support. We will arrange the visit at a time that works best for you and ensure it’s a relaxed, supportive experience.

Absolutely. Our partners at Amaze Sussex and Sight Support Worthing can support you with benefit applications and connect you to financial resources. Have a look at our grants page to explore what is available from a range of organisations.

Have more questions?

We are always here to support you. If anything is unclear or you would like a bit more guidance, just reach out - our team will be glad to help.
